The call I have responded to most often in my work over the last 20 years has been, “ how do we fix it? “
I’ve had great occasions working with government agencies, philanthropy, non profits and corporations solving problems and designing solutions that made their work stronger. Independent of the sector there were themes in the challenges organizations were facing. Problems like high turnover and employee dissatisfaction, ineffective communication systems, uncoordinated project management systems, lack of evaluation informed decision making challenges.
With an outsider perspective, it has been easier to see that many of the problems stalling progress of teams are the result of faulty internal systems. Poor performance of a team or individual can often be attributed to lack organizational policies and procedures.
